As Mayor Eric Adams’ inner circle faces federal corruption probes, another high-ranking person in his administration recently contemplated leaving.
According to three sources acquainted with Zach Iscol’s situation, the commissioner of emergency management for New York City informed many individuals that he planned to resign from his position this coming fall. They were given permission to remain anonymous in order to discuss a sensitive personnel problem openly.
When disaster strikes, such as a hurricane, Iscol is in charge of organizing the city’s reaction. Leaked audio shows that he recently warned senior staff that the current situation could jeopardize public safety, suggesting that he is not patient with the man-made crisis engulfing the mayor.
“This is not good,” he reportedly added, as heard on the recording that The Associated Press captured. I’m most worried about the city leadership getting sidetracked by all the happenings in the city.
Iscol avoided answering directly to the topic of whether he intends to retire.
According to his interview with HEADLINESFOREVER, he acknowledged that there are numerous speculations circulating. What I can say is that New York is a wonderful city. At all times, I will prioritize the welfare of the people of New York. We are in dire need of strong leadership at the moment. My position as commissioner of emergency management is my top priority, especially with hurricane season, the impending election, and all the other things happening in the city.
Iscol was highly esteemed by the mayor and other administration members for his riches, telegenicity, and national political ties; he was also a former U.S. Marine. He was appointed to the position following his failed 2021 bid for city comptroller.
Ashwin Vasan, the New York City health commissioner, resigned on Monday and intends to leave later this year; news of his possible departure broke hours after HEADLINESFOREVER broke the story.
Iscol wrote on X after this piece came out, “I am not planning on leaving.”
He returned to X within the hour to post, “I’ve had a number of conversations about this, but have decided the right thing to stick around,” in response to HEADLINESFOREVER’s report.
