On Monday, during the 60th Presidential Inauguration, President-elect Donald Trump will take the oath of office while holding two sacred texts.
“Mark his Sunday Church Primary School graduation at First Presbyterian Church, in Jamaica, New York,” Trump will recite the words of his mother who presented him with a Bible in 1955, as said in a news release from his inaugural team.
Published in 1953 by Thomas Nelson and Sons in New York, the religious text is a revised standard edition. Inside the cover, you can see the signatures of church authorities, an inscription of the president’s name, and information of when it was handed to him, in addition to Trump’s name imprinted on the lower section of the front cover.
The Lincoln Bible, which was initially used to swear in the 16th president of the United States in 1861, will be used alongside the emotional Bible.
“It has only been used three times since, by President Obama at each of his inaugurations and by President Trump at his first inauguration in 2017,” according to Trump’s staff. “The burgundy velvet-bound book is part of the collections of the Library of Congress.”
According to the Associated Press, President Obama likewise used two Bibles when he took the oath of office in 2013. Both belonged to Lincoln’s family; one belonged to Martin Luther King Jr.
On the federal holiday honoring King’s legacy, President-elect Trump will take the oath of office within the Capitol rotunda, confronting a bust of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
