In the US state of Alabama, an airport worker perished after being “ingested” into an aircraft engine.

At around 3 p.m. on Saturday, American Airlines Flight 3408 arrived from Dallas at Montgomery Regional Airport.

The ground staff member was “ingested into the engine” of an aeroplane as it was parked at the gate, according to the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), CBS News said.

The individual has not yet been identified; he or she worked for Piedmont Airlines, an American Airlines regional subsidiary.

The incident is being looked into by the NTSB and Federal Aviation Administration.

a representative for American Airlines stated: “We are horrified by the incident involving a Piedmont Airlines employee at Montgomery Regional Airport, an American Airlines regional airline.

“The family and the members of our regional team are in our hearts and prayers.

“We are committed to making sure that everyone affected has the support they require at this trying time,”
