Featuring moving testimony from a Texas lady who claims she was coerced into getting an abortion, the Joe Biden campaign released a new ad today.
After learning during a routine ultrasound that her unborn child had a grave illness, the mother, Dr. Austin Dennard, claims she was coerced into leaving Texas to obtain an abortion.
Carrying such pregnancy is mandatory in Texas. “And that is because of Donald Trump overturning Roe v. Wade,” she says in the minute-long video, describing the decision to abort her pregnancy as “absolutely unbearable” and “every woman’s worst nightmare.”
In an effort to strengthen their messaging on abortion rights and intensify their assaults on Trump—the current frontrunner in the GOP primary—Biden’s campaign has released the commercial.
If Biden runs for president in the first election after the overthrow of Roe v. Wade in 2022, he will likely do so on a platform that is more conservative than any other candidate’s.
While senior Biden campaign staffers have listed abortion rights as the president’s top priority, Biden has been more circumspect on the subject, saying that his Catholic faith makes him “not big on abortion” in his own words. On the other hand, he has stated that Roe “got it right,” and his government has opposed attempts to limit access to abortion drugs and criticised court decisions that limit abortion access.
