Former White House official and famous Democratic political strategist David Axelrod suggested on Sunday that President Joe Biden should give serious consideration to whether he should continue to seek reelection.
“Only @JoeBiden can make this decision,” Axelrod tweeted on the platform X. If he keeps running, he will be the Democratic nominee. What he needs to evaluate is if it is wise; whether it’s in HIS best interest or the country’s?”
In response to recent polling from The New York Times and Siena showing Biden trailing former President Donald Trump in key battleground states, Axelrod, who is best known as the driving force behind former President Barack Obama’s 2008 and 2012 runs for president and served as a senior adviser in his administration, made the following statement. Axelrod proposed those figures to ensure realism.
“It’s very late to change horses,” Axelrod responded, “a lot will happen in the next year that no one can predict & Biden’s team says his resolve to run is firm.”
According to Axelrod, “he’s defied CW before,” with “CW” being for “conventional wisdom,” and “but this will send tremors of doubt thru the party — not ‘bed-wetting,’ but legitimate concern.”
