Harris’s Male Voter Problem: Is This the Beginning of the End?

During an interview with NBC News, Vice President Kamala Harris dismissed her declining popularity among male voters, when asked why former President Donald Trump led her by 16 points in the critical voting category.

“Why do you think there is a disconnect for you with men right now?” NBC’s Peter Alexander asked Harris during an interview in Michigan that aired on Saturday.

According to an NBC poll taken in early October, Harris leads Trump by 55% to 41% among women voters, but Trump leads Harris by 56% to 40% among men.

“You can look at the audience and see there are people of every background and gender who are showing up by the thousands, and I think it is because they know I intend to be a president for all Americans, and that’s how I’m campaigning to earn the vote of every American,” Harris told reporters.

Alexander inquired again about the disparity in male support, to which Harris responded, “Not only about their gender, but about their geographic location and unburdened by who they voted for in the past.”

“To be clear, men continue to support Donald Trump by a margin of 16 percent. “Why do you think that is?” Alexander added.

Harris stated that it was not her experience.

Alexander also questioned Harris on how she would differ from President Biden.

“To be quite honest with you, vice presidents, including Mike Pence, do not criticize their presidents. I believe that it does not make for a constructive and important partnership, both historically and in the future,” she said.

During a pre-campaign rally in Pittsburgh on Thursday, former President Obama appeared to chastise Black Americans for not being as enthusiastic about Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign as they were for his in 2008 and 2012.

During an appearance on NBC’s “Meet The Press” earlier this month, MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell also brought up Harris’ troubles with male voters.

“She’s got such a big problem with men,” Mitchell said, adding that Trump’s support from that demographic may be underestimated.

“I believe that there is misogyny in all of this. It’s a major issue among both black and white men. But also in the corporate sphere. They do not believe she is serious. They do not think she is a heavyweight. And a part of this is gender, but she needs to be more precise about her economic goals,” Mitchell added. “I think they’ve got to double down on doing more interviews and serious interviews.”
