The $250 million civil trial in which Donald Trump and his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., are accused of extensive corporate fraud, began on Wednesday.
Trump Jr. was scheduled to be questioned by attorneys working for New York Attorney General Tish James regarding his role in the preparation of financial documents connected to his father’s net worth. Donald Trump, his adult sons, and business colleagues have been charged by James’ office of lying about the worth of Trump’s properties to secure more favourable conditions from lenders and insurers.
The trial has been going on since the beginning of October, but the former president wasn’t there on Wednesday to watch Donald Trump Jr. testify.
Trump Jr., dressed in a navy suit and bubblegum pink tie for his appearance in court, remarked, “I should have worn makeup,” as he sat at the defence table for photographs to be taken before taking the stand.
It is believed that all three of Trump’s children would testify, with Trump Jr. being the first. This week, his brother Eric Trump, who is also a defendant in the lawsuit, is scheduled to give testimony. Next Monday, Ivanka Trump will speak on behalf of her family. The two Trump brothers are co-defendants in the case. The case against Ivanka was dropped prior to trial.
On Monday, the former president will take the stand.
