Inside Democrats’ Private Fury at Biden’s Return to Public Life After Campaign Exit

According to a Friday article from The Hill, Democrats are supposedly irate with Joe Biden’s reemergence in the public eye after his appearance on “The View” on Thursday.

Democrats are getting on Biden’s case, saying he’s dragging the party down by keeping himself in the limelight even while questions about his mental acuity while in government have come to light.

During his appearance on ‘The View’ Thursday, former First Lady Jill Biden helped her husband out when he had trouble answering a question on his mental acuity.

To vote is to choose one’s destiny. Democratic strategist and former official in Joe Biden’s administration Anthony Cole told The Hill that whenever Joe Biden makes an appearance, it’s like rehashing an old battle. The Democratic brand requires reliable messengers and fighters who can connect with moderates and independents while still motivating the base, and every interview he does merely serves to highlight Trump’s worst qualities. Uncle Joe Biden isn’t that.

While Cole did say it was “good” that Biden admitted party guilt for Trump’s 2024 victory, he questioned if that would have any bearing on the current situation.

At this point in time, what good is that? From party faithful to elected officials, many Democrats are just eager to move on. The breadth and depth of this feeling is something he doesn’t seem to grasp, Cole said.

Not only that, but some Democrats thought he didn’t take responsibility for 2024 seriously enough in his Thursday appearance.

According to one Democratic strategist, Biden should “own up to the fact that he caused Democrats to lose” and “take responsibility for his actions.”

“I don’t think there’s a willingness to cop to the fact that he should never have run again in the first place,” the political analyst said. “Why can’t he come out and acknowledge that part of this is on him?”

Steve Schale, who has been an associate of Biden’s for a long time and helped lead a super PAC that supported Biden in the last race, has asked Biden to put his “humanity” front and center instead of making public appearances that show his decline.

“There is a way for President Biden to build his post-presidency, but this isn’t it,” said Schale. “I really wish he’d embrace the thing that’s been his calling card for 50 years: his humanity.”

According to Schale’s interview with The Hill, Biden should learn from Jimmy Carter’s example and prioritize community service before protecting his legacy if he wants to be president.

“By the end of his life, we were reminded of the decent and humble nature of the man thanks to his acts, not his words,” remarked the author. “I really wish Biden would follow a similar path.”

New books on the latter days of Biden’s presidency have been circulating recently, and some of them have accused the former president of suffering from a decline in mental acuity while in office. This has coincided with Biden’s recent interviews.

A former first lady said, “The people who wrote those books were not in the White House with us.” In Thursday’s interview, the ex-president and his wife denied the claims.

The Hill spoke with an unidentified Democratic consultant who said that future candidates will be held accountable for the narrative around Biden’s mental clarity.

“There’s a good chance that the most significant litmus test for any Democrat in the 2028 field will be how and if they admonish Biden for the political judgment in the final 18 months of his political career,” according to the strategist.

Since younger Democrats are quickly becoming the party’s future leaders, some are wondering why the interview was even needed.

“I am unsure of the individual requesting this,” stated Democratic strategist Jon Reinish. “I actually think that a lot of people are starting to pay much more attention to a younger generation of Democrats free of baggage and who are finally starting to move the party away from folks who stayed too long at the fair.”
