Following President Trump’s contentious closed-door meeting with his Cabinet, Speaker Mike Johnson has thrown his support behind Elon Musk. Johnson said that the job of Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency is undergoing a “recalibration” and that Musk would fix his faults as he goes along.
It seems like yesterday the president made some adjustments. In an interview that aired on Fox News on Friday, Johnson explained that the president had a conversation with Elon Musk and other Cabinet secretaries on the process of formalizing more of this.
In response to a question on his message to the nation’s dismissed veterans who are becoming increasingly enraged by Republicans due to DOGE’s “move fast and break things” strategy, Johnson stated, “we have to take care of our veterans.”
Claiming that “there’s no playbook” for DOGE, he defended Musk, explaining that the special adviser to Trump and CEO of Tesla may make some mistakes but will solve them.
That includes the widespread layoffs of veterans, according to Johnson.
“Constantly check back, since we will fix it. “And I’ve had private conversations with Elon about this, as have many of us,” Johnson added. “And the pivotal staff members and outstanding contributors will return.”
