Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear laughed off several nasty comments made about him on social media in the last year, and had his teenage son translate what one remark meant, in a lighthearted video that demonstrates his ability to periodically poke fun at himself.
Continuing an end-of-year tradition, Beshear and his wife, Britainy, read some posts from 2024 that targeted him. It’s their take on late-night television show Jimmy Kimmel’s program, in which celebrities read harsh tweets directed at them on the social media platform X.
Beshear, who has been considered as a prospective Democratic presidential candidate in 2028, read one comment that said, “Andy, I love you, but you have zero aura.”
“I wish I knew what that meant, but it doesn’t sound good,” the governor replied.
He summoned his son, Will, to translate, asking, “So, is that like a good thing?” His son responded that it wasn’t, claiming “you have zero coolness.”
The governor, laughing it off, had the last word, claiming he has “so much aura.”
When another user commented on Beshear’s physical appearance, claiming he has “no abs,” his wife responded that they had purchased a rowing machine, so “look out.”
“Thank you for letting the world know about the rowing machine,” the governor responded.
He also read two opposing posts, one saying “Andy Beshear sounded like a goober” and the other saying Beshear is “the goober that America needs.”
“I’ve got you, America,” the governor stated.
Beshear concluded the video on a more serious note, congratulating Kentucky on “another great year” and encouraging viewers to “hug on the people that you love.” Since he took office in late 2019, Kentucky has had its first, second, and fourth greatest years for private-sector investments.
Beshear is one of several Democratic governors rumored to be prospective presidential candidates in 2028. Beshear’s second term as governor ends in late 2027, and due to term restrictions, he will be unable to seek for reelection then.
He recently stated that his priorities will be jobs, infrastructure, education, and health care in 2025. Beshear mentioned the same issues in a recent interview with The Associated Press, where he suggested what Democrats should look for in their next presidential nominee, ranging from more affordable health care to pro-public education and increased public safety in communities.
“I think the next Democratic nominee should be a pragmatist that is about getting things done, getting real results,” added Mr. Trump.
