According to testimony given by David Pecker, a former publisher of the National Enquirer, Donald Trump referred to Karen McDougal, a former Playboy model, as a “nice girl” during a phone conversation.
In June 2016, Trump placed the conversation when Pecker was in the midst of negotiations with top editor Dylan Howard and Michael Cohen to purchase the story from McDougal in order to conceal it from the public.
I was told by Trump, ‘I spoke to Michael.’ “Karen is a nice girl,” Pecker informed the jury of the conversation.
Pecker claimed that Howard learned throughout the article’s screening process that ABC News and a “Mexican group” were also interested in the topic. According to Pecker’s testimony, ABC News allegedly promised McDougal a spot on “Dancing With the Stars” in exchange for the coverage.
